Working on the new Yobel Market website (yobelmarket.myshopify.com - soon to replace the current www.yobelmarket.com site) we ran across a situation where we had set shipping charges based on the weight of a product. However many of Yobel Market’s products a light-weight, but large and carry shipping charges that are far more than an average sized item of their weight.
Here is a solution from Kenzie on the Shopify Forums! Thanks Kenzie.
Use volumetric weight instead of actual weight. That’s what most shipping companies use, and it works well for us. It’s an easy calculation…
(Length x Width x Height in centimeters) / 6000 = Volumetric Weight in kilograms
(Length x Width x Height in inches) / 194 = Volumetric Weight in Pounds
Check with your shipping company for their actual formula, but they’re usually pretty close.
